Reader’s of Lucky That Way have asked to see my dad’s paintings. Scroll down to see them. Readers might recognize a few that are mentioned in the book. In one scene, for example, after a day at the beach in 1990, he snapped a photo of me (right) and went home and got busy, basing several paintings on the photo, including Girl With Green Hair in Landscape and Got to Feed God Children. Girl Reading is also based on a photo of me. I read a lot when I was a kid, so I was an easy, still subject. Siblings, friends, and my cousin have other paintings. The rest — we don’t know how many — are hanging on the walls of strangers. Unsentimental, he painted and sold his work quickly. He had five children to clothe and feed. (Some of the dates and titles are approximate. He did not like to give names to his paintings — there is a scene in the book about this — and often did not date them.)
